Rose hurt his ankle at Forest Green two weekends ago and, despite high optimism, he missed out over Easter and looks likely to miss out again this weekend.

“I was disappointed to not have him in or around, certainly for Monday, even if it was to get him on for 20 minutes,” said manager David Flitcroft.

“That’s the way we thought it might be going.

“It’s a ligament injury and they always give you initial hope they’ve repaired.

“Although the early signs were good, as he’s got out on the grass and done the running, there was some soreness in there and it’s restrictive. His power is down.

“We have just got to keep hoping he might be able to play a part on Saturday.

“He is on end stage rehab and we are just hoping over the next two days there is a significant improvement.”

Stags will again be without suspended left back Mal Benning.
