Stags shock as outcast Murray is recalled for cup game

In a shock move, Mansfield Town are to recall midfielder Adam Murray from his loan spell at Worksop Town in time for the Stags’ FA Cup clash at Oldham Athletic this Saturday.

The 32-year-old outcast assistant manager, whose Stags career looked to be over to the fans, is to be recalled officially on Friday, after completing 28 days at the Tigers, the minimum time span after which a player can be called back to his parent club.

Murray fell out with manager Paul Cox earlier this season and has since spent loan spells at Rainworth MW and then Worksop.

But, after six successive defeats saw Stags slide down the League Two table, fans were clamouring for the return of the midfield ace.

Following a meeting between manager Cox and Murray on Monday morning, the midfielder has since taken part in two training sessions, linking up with the rest of the first team squad.

He is in now firmly contention for a place in the line-up in Saturday’s eagerly awaited FA Cup tie at Oldham Athletic.

The duo are set to speak in more detail to the local media on Thursday when the club will host their weekly pre-match news conference.

Murray only started the first two games of the season before being dropped to the bench.
