In January 79 years ago the Stags romped to victory against Hartlepools with one player hogging the limelights.
Ted Harston smashed seven goals in an 8-2 home win over Hartlepools in Football League Division 3 North on January 23, 1937.
The goals came during a prolific season for Harston who hit 58 in total.
The Stags assembled a 3-1 lead at the break with Harston notching his first on 12 minutes before walking home his second on 18 minutes.
Charlie Rattray made it 3-0 before the north-east visitors pulled a goal back from the penalty spot.
The second half was completely one-way traffic.
Harston completed his treble a minute after the restart before adding a further four goals.
Despite a late consolation ‘Pools were well and truly beaten as the Stags ran out comprehensive victors.
Harston eventually moved on to Liverpool at the end of the season but he remains one of the club’s all-time top scorers, hitting 81 in total.
