MANSFIELD Town reserves overcame the Mariners and the elements to chalk up a 3-0 away win at Grimsby Town yesterday.

A blockbuster free kick from 30 yards by Louis Briscoe and a second from Ben Hutchinson on the half-hour mark had the stags in the driving seat before the players were forced off by a sudden storm of heavy rain and painful hailstones.

Once the game restarted, Mariners’ full-back Blaize Kerr added an own goal to complete the scoring.

Central defender Exodus Geohaghon came through the full 90 minutes to put himself in full contention for Saturday’s home clash with play-off rivals Dartford.

Team: Redmond, Pilkington, Dempster (Marsden), Geohaghon, Thompson, Clements (Howell), Briscoe (Barry), Hutchinson, Jabbi, Rhead, Wright. Subs not used: Sub: Barke, Todd.
