Stags’ matchwinner Brown praises Kee

Brown struck on 83 minutes after Jamie Cureton’s equaliser on the hour had wiped out Reggie Lambe’s 46th minute opener, Stags leapfrogging their rivals at the bottom.

Kee has been a bit of a forgoten man since joining on loan from Scunthorpe but made a significant contribution yesterday.

Brown, who also set up Lambe’s goal and won man of the match, said: “It was a nice strike, but I have got to give credit to Billy Kee, whose set-up was inch-perfect and made my job a lot easier.

“I knew where the goal was and just made sure I made a good contact and got the ball through all the bodies.

“We went more direct second half and created a lot of chances, but things just wouldn’t fall for us.

“But we kept plugging away and got our rewards.”

He added: “It is frustrating for me not getting enough goals so hopefully this was the first of a few in the coming weeks to help us secure survival.

“With the situation, it was a nervous game. But we stuck at it and after the break were more aggressive and more assertive.

“Reggie Lambe did really well with the first goal and that put us on the front foot.

“We have been fantastic at home, but now we have got to take that mentality away and focus on the task in hand.

“It was nice but this is not about one man. It is about everyone and we are all digging in, even those who aren’t playing. You could see that today in the way we celebrated.”

Another hero on the day was centre half Ryan Tafazolli, who completed the game despite dislocating a shoulder in the first half.

“That was a massive three points as it’s getting so tight at the bottom,” he said.

“We were up against a strong wind in the first half, but we soaked everything up and kept a clean sheet.

“We knew second half we would be able to use it to our advantage and we came out all guns blazing and nicked the first goal.

“My shoulder came out and went back in very quickly so I got lucky with that one.

“As a defensive unit we were disappointed with their goal and we will identify what went wrong. We know Jamie Cureton comes alive in the box.”
