Stags get the covers on as Arctic blast threatens home games

Title-chasing Mansfield’s hopes of extending their new club record winning streak into double figures were thwarted by heavy rain on Tuesday which saw them having to turn back halfway en route to their big showdown at Wrexham.

Now heavy snow and zero degree temperatures are forecast in Mansfield tomorrow with light snow and minus one degree on Saturday, when play-off chasers Macclesfield Town are due at the One Call. Struggling Nuneaton Town are then due to be the visitors on Tuesday.

“We have to get on with it and prepare as if the games will be on,” said boss Paul Cox.

“The covers are already on and we need these games on. They have forecast a lot of snow in the next couple of days so I think our supporters will be called into play (to clear the pitch).

“Macclesfield will still believe they can make the play-offs and are a big club at this level of football. So we will have to be on our mettle.

“We looked tired near the end of the Forest Green game on Friday so the only good thing to come out of Tuesday’s postponement was that I have been able to give the players a couple of days off to spend some time with their families.

“Hopefully that mini break will give us fresh impetus. We are now going to train very hard Thursday and Friday.”

Stags travelled to Nottingham today to make use of the Forest Academy facilities in West Bridgford.
