Former Mansfield Town player of the season Gary Silk has joined BSBP rivals Grimsby Town.
“We made him an offer but I gather Gary has signed for Grimsby for more money,” said Stags boss Paul Cox.
“He has been a great servant here, though last season was probaby not one of his better ones in terms of standards. I was hoping to put him back on track.”
Cox said he has plenty of irons in the fire for new players though lost out on one on Monday to a club from a league below who are ‘throwing money at it.’
“I will pay players what I think they are worth,” he said.
“Some are asking me for League One money. But I am careful with my own money so the chairman knows I will be careful with his as well.
“My job is to build a squad with the right blend of players to compete in what I believe will be a seven team ‘mini-league’ at the top of the Conference.”
