Stags’ FA Cup tie with Concord called off

There was late disappointment today as Mansfield Town’s FA Cup first round tie with Concord Rangers was called off after a 1.30pm inspection of the One Call Stadium pitch.

Sadly the postponement came too late to prevent the Conference South part-timers making the complete journey all the way up from Canvey Island for their big day.

The pitch was fine first thing but then it began to rain heavily at about 8am and the match officials came in early to keep an eye on the situation.

Another late morning heavy downpour then wreaked more havoc and, with more heavy rain forecast around kick-off time, they were left with no choice but to call it off.

The game will now have to be played on a midweek date to be agreed, likely to be a week on Tuesday.

Stags’ reaction to follow shortly.

In the Northern Counties East League Division, the two local games - Teversal v Hallam and Clipstone v Eccleshill – also fell foul of the weather.
