Mansfield Town have allowed centre-half George Taft to join fellow Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge United on loan until January.
The deal was completed just before tonight’s 11pm transfer window deadline.
Earlier in the evening the Stags signed Millwall midfielder Calum Butcher.
Taft, 24, joined the Stags last summer, but picked up a serious hamstring injury in September 2016.
He then returned to action in March and made a total of 14 first team appearances in the 2016/17 season.
The former Leicester City man was handed a new deal in May, but has found first team opportunities limited in the current campaign, making his first appearance in Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy defeat to Lincoln City.
Taft is ineligible to play against the Stags in their Sky Bet League Two fixtures against the U’s at One Call Stadium on Saturday 23 September or at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday 16 January.
Furthermore, the former Burton Albion man cannot play against the Stags should the two clubs meet in this season’s Emirates FA Cup.
