Stags boss Murray moved by fans’ reaction to his playing return

After often stating he didn’t want to be a player-manager, Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray admitted he enjoyed his brief return on Saturday and was moved by the home fans’ reaction.

With injuries mounting, Murray decided to put himself on the bench on Saturday and came on for the last few minutes, but was unable to prevent Northampton snatching a late 1-1 draw.

However, Murray said: “The reception the fans gave me was a bit overwhelming.

“I did enjoy getting my boots back on. I am back in full training now and will be up to speed relatively quickly.

“Having the option of myself in certain parts of the game does put my mind as ease, but I am more than confident in what we have got.

“With the injuries we’ve took on, you couldn’t write it. You get over one hurdle and something else happens.

“At the minute I have had to put myself in there, but you saw the emergence of Jack Thomas on Saturday and we have got a number of bright young lads coming through the system at the minute.”
