STAGS BLOG: Frustration at Wycombe defeat

Last week started very quietly at Mansfield and as many of us fans know that is unheard of at our club!

Maybe, for a change, it’s not a bad thing.

Manager Adam Murray’s son taking the press conference in midweek was very funny but at least saw the manager sticking to his word!

I now go to the game against Wycombe Wanderers and this might be a bit of a moany blog, a little bit like the Bristol Rovers match, but I feel it is needed!

I think coming out of the ground there was a feeling of pure frustration with the fact that we didn’t finish our chances.

With Wycombe scoring with their only two shots they had at goal it was a bitter pill to swallow.

I do feel that given how both sides played, 0-0 would have been an apt scoreline for this match.

Wycombe reminded me of a Paul Cox team, as all they did from minute one was hoof the ball down the pitch. Some games you get lucky in things falling for you, but in others they won’t get lucky and would lose easily.

I don’t mind losing a game at all but to lose it to a team who were very poor does make it even more frustrating. They had a goalkeeper who was on top form and was their man of the match, as well as luck which has been the case in a few Stags home games this season.

The home league form is a little bit of a worry and we do need to be picking up wins on our home ground, but I have full confidence in this team and given a bit of luck and players playing the style that we have started the season with I think we will be up near the top come the end of the season.

I’m now going to talk about Matt Green. I know he does a lot of running for the team but I think it’s clear to see Matt is clearly very out of form. I don’t which to demean him in any way but I feel he needs a spell on the bench and for Adi Yussuf to come in for him.

Firstly I’d hope this would re-ignite his performances and show us what we all know he Is capable of. This short spell on the bench might get in his head that he isn’t irreplaceable but might also give him a kick up the backside as well and bring out the Greeny we all know and love.

Back to Saturday’s match and I felt that Lee Collins and Blair Adams had really good games, Blair being the stand out player for me and if his shot had gone in at the start of the game the game I think would have been a completely different story.

I also thought the changes that Murray made, bringing Chris Clements and Yussuf on, changed the game as well but as stated above we got stopped by their goalkeeper.

With Krystian Pearce now being available again I’m going to finish this with a question for everyone. After Lee Collins’ performances in the last three games, would anybody put Pearce back into the team?

For anyone wondering what I’d do, yes, I would put Pearce in the team, so come on Adam Murray and Come on you Stags!
