Nottinghamshire County Council and Sport Nottinghamshire have spent recent months seeking nominations for the 22nd annual Nottinghamshire Sports Awards, which are are a celebration of grassroots and professional sports, and have now announced the shortlists.

Mansfield Town are up against Beeston Hockey Club Men’s First XI, Nottingham Panthers, Nottinghamshire Outlaws YB40 Team and West Indian Cavaliers for Team of the Year.

Young Coach of the Year finalists include Ashfield’s Richard Younger (hockey) while among the final Junior Volunteer of the Year nominations is Mansfield’s Jade Clarke (multi sports).

Ashfield’s Hayley Saggers (football) and Mansfield’s Michael Wain (football) are both up for the Community Coach of the Year, while Mansfield’s Harry Poxon (athletics) is among the Junior Disabled Sportsperson finalists.

Junior Sportsperson of the Year finalists include Ashfield’s Ellie Downie (gymnastics) and Mansfield boxer Nico Leivers.

Among the Junior Team of the Year finalists are Brunts Academy Badminton Team (Mansfield) and Performance Coach of the Year finalists include Kirkby’s multi-world champion Phil Beniston (powerlifting) and Mansfield’s Glenn Smith (swimming).

The Sporting School of the Year Finalists include Samworth Church Academy (Mansfield).

Ravenshead’s Chris Adcock (badminton) is also among the final five for the overall Sportsperson of the Year.

The awards will be presented during a glittering ceremony on Monday, 20th January at the East Midlands Conference Centre.

More than 480 people enjoyed last year’s awards ceremony.

On the night the names of three individuals will be added to the prestigious Roll of Honour book – acknowledging outstanding contributions make to Nottinghamshire Sport, and an Achievement of the Year award will also be announced.
