Palmer back on the Stags goal trail

Palmer had scored the only goal of the game at Wycombe early in the season, but had only added one more until yesterday when he netted after coming on as a late substitute.

He said: “My role is to score goals, but I came out of the side as I wasn’t scoring goals. “Hopefully today I have got that monkey off my back and I can start picking up a few more.

“I am a goal poacher and it was good to get that one today.

“It has taken me a bit of time to get up to the level of fitness I needed. I have done that now and I am feeling good.”

He added: “The boys worked really hard today and we showed our fighting spirit and came away with a point.

“It was raining hard and we had thunder and lightning. But you are going to get that in England and you just have to get on with it.

“We ended up with four up front but we had to go for it.

“It is good to have another game against Bury coming up almost straight away, and we will need to show the same fighting spirit as we did today.

“It’s not a bad run we are on now and we just need to start turning the draws into wins.”

Palmer was also happy to see top scorer Sam Clucas back from injury, also coming on as a substitute, and said: “It was great to see him back. We don’t really have anyone else like him in the side and it was a big boost to have him back today.”
