Opposition: Level-headed Exeter City set for '˜difficult Mansfield Town test'

The Grecians, who hadn’t scored in seven hours of football prior to their demolition of the Magpies, ran out comfortable 5-1 winners over Harry Kewell’s side.

That result will ensure they make the 460-mile round trip up the M5 with confidence but manager Matt Taylor is remaining level-headed after a turbulent run.

Looking ahead to playing Mansfield Town, Taylor said: “Regardless of who is managing that team, it is a difficult place to go, such a difficult place.

“But we have to be ready for that, I am sure that we will be.

“I am sure that we will take some confidence from this performance and as I have said in a few interviews, we didn’t get too low last week.

“We boosted the lads this week and went back to basics to a certain extent.

“That has to be the same week in week out, I have a good group of players and if we work as hard as that, then we will be okay.”

Taylor succeeded long-serving manager Paul Tisdale (pictured left) who left at the end of last season to take up the hot seat at MK Dons.

Taylor, formerly the club’s under-23s coach, was promoted to first team duties in June - days after Exeter’s League Two play-off final defeat to Coventry City.

He has overseen an encouraging start to the season overall, with the Grecians placed third in the table after seven games.

Meanwhile, Stags had a blank weekend after their scheduled match at Crewe Alexandra was postponed due to international call ups.

They will have to have a watchful eye on the visitors’ centre-forward Jayden Stockley who has five to his name so far this season.

Stockley, who bagged 25 last season, added: “We’ve been good on the road so far so it’s another chance to go and put a marker down.”
