No appeal for Stags over McGuire red card

The midfielder steamed into a 23rd minute tackle on Danny Rose which the referee deemed to be two-footed.

Manager Paul Cox has reviewed the DVD and said today: “The video is inconclusive, though it doesn’t look like a red card.

“You do need really good evidence to get someone off a red card and I don’t think we have the evidence to make that claim. So it doesn’t look like we will be appealing.

“The main thing is we shouldn’t be getting all these red cards. We should be a bit cuter out there. It is giving us a mountain to climb.

“It is a cause for concern. We give ourselves a better chance of winning a football match with 11 men out there.

“Taking away the John Dempster one at Bury, I think we have been a bit unlucky, though.

“You look at the James Alabi one at Southend and you think, wow, what is the game coming to? But the referee has a job to do.

“There are rules and we have go to learn to fit in with those rules. If the ball is not there to be won whole-heartedly then we have go to stand on our feet and make better decisions.

“What hurts me more then the red card was the sloppy way in which we conceded the three goals.”

McGuire will now miss the next three games, including this weekend’s return trip to his former club Fleetwood Town.
