Murray dismisses Tamworth job link

Stags skipper and assistant manager Adam Murray said he is happy at One Call Stadium, though flattered to be linked with the vacant Tamworth manager’s post.

Murray’s name has been mentioned as a candidate at the Lamb Ground after Dale Belford quit the Conference North strugglers last week.

But Murray today dismissed the link, saying: “There’s no substance behind the story as far as I am concerned.

“It’s one of those things, it happens in football. But it’s always nice to be linked with things.

“It means someone can see I am doing a half-decent job. But I am more than happy here working alongside the gaffer and I feel we are moving forward at the minute. I am also enjoying playing.”

Mansfield will send a strong side to Scunthorpe United this afternoon (2pm) as they kick off their Final Third Development League (East Division) campaign.

The Stags finished as runners-up in this division last season.

“A strong side will be going up there with six or seven first team players,” said Murray. “There are a few lads who’ve not had much game time over the last couple of weeks and need their fitness topping up with a proper, competitive game.

“There will also be a couple of youth team boys and probably one trialist for us to cast an eye over and see how he performs in a game situation.”

Stags midfielder Chris Clements had a hamstring tear that could rule him out for up to a month.

“Chris had a scan yesterday and it showed a grade one tear which wasn’t as bad as we first thought,” said Murray. “Depending on his healing, he could be up to four weeks, and knowing Chris and the treatment he will be getting from the physio, we expect he will be sooner than later.”
