Meikle believes Macclesfield win can kickstart Mansfield Town’s season

LINDON Meikle believes the superb showing at Macclesfield Town on Tuesday night can really kickstart the season.

Stags’ powerful display earned them a convincing 3-0 win – the first away win for three months – and England C winger Meikle said: “We needed to stuff someone like that.

“It’s taken a long time to come but now I hope that can be our ‘Neport’ like last year and we can kickstart the season and get going from here.

“Every team I have been in with the gaffer always comes good by Christmas time so I hope it’s now onwards and upwards.

“We were solid back to front at Macclesfield and, after scoring two goals this week, you can see it in Matt Green’s face that he is getting his confidence back in front of goal.”

Meikle is now preparing to face NLP neighbours Matlock Town in Saturday’s home first round FA Trophy tie, saying: “It’s another game we’ve got to win to keep the rhythm going.

“We know it’s their cup final and a chance for their players to be seen. One or two of them will live locally there are lots of reasons why they will step up from the normal level of their games.

“It is going to be a tight game like Slough in the FA Cup.”

Stags are now just seven points off top spot in the table with a game in hand and Meikle added: “We have a good chance to win it. Everyone has to keep the faith and believe.”
