Green has been struggling for goals as the team embarked on a five game run without a goal or win which ended with a bang yesterday.

“It’s been tough to be honest as I expect to score goals, the manager expects me to score goals, the team expect me to score goals.

“But we are a team and the manager has just said if we can be solid all the way through, everything else will take care of itself.

“I think the proof was in the pudding today and we’ve got to take that into Tuesday and we’ll go again.”

Although Green slotted two superb finishes past Trevor Carson, the goal of the game was a 20 yard top corner finish for sub Adi Yussuf.

“It was a superb goal and I am so happy for him,” said Green.

“He trains so hard and he pushes me and I push him. We have a great relationship. Today shows that at a young age he could be a key player for us this season.”

Yussuf said last week that he sees Green as a brother and Green said: “It’s true. We bounce off each other and we help each other. It’s what it’s about. We do that as a team too and the manager is close to us as well.

“We’ve got a really good group here and we want to kick on.

“It is a relief. There’s nothing worse than missing chances or going through dry spells as a striker. So it’s good to get that monkey off your back so to speak.

“I never doubted myself, but sometimes you just can’t see how your goal is going to come. It’s just football.

“It’s given me the world of confidence again and I am excited to play my next game.”

He added: “The supporters were magnificent. They just need to stick with us through the good times and the bad times, and when the good times come like that today we can enjoy it.”
