Mansfield Town’s Matt Green is not worried about being a marked man

Last season’s 30-goal hero has moved onto 18 for this season with nine games to go and said: “Speaking to players I’ve played against this season, they’ve told me they have tried to give me as little space as possible. So I have had to add a few strings to my bow when teams come to frustrate us.

“But there are other players here that can score goals from all over the park and no one can come and just mark one person. If they want to come and concentrate on me then that’s up to them as long as we keep scoring and putting points on the table.

“I am two off getting 20 this season with nine games left. I want to score in every game and there is still a chance for me to get as many as last year. We’ll just have to see what I’ve got at the end.”

One player enjoying the space that Green’s running creates is his former Oxford United team mate Adam Chapman, who hit four goals in two games last week.

“I was at Oxford with him and he is a quality player and a quality addition to the team,” said Green.

“He has always had goals in his locker but probably couldn’t get forward as much for Oxford.”

Green added: “With nine games left you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, it’s not 45 games to go any more. We are in a good position. If we do the business now, the rest takes care of itself.

“We have two home games this week and, if we are serious, we have got to be looking to win both games.”
