The former Walsall man collided with Brian Jensen towards the end of Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Bristol Rovers.

Boss Adam Murray said: “It’s something to do with his cruciate. It’s not his ACL, it’s a PCL; apparently it’s not as bad but we’ll see.

“Mal was obviously gutted yesterday, we were all gutted but we’ll rally round him and he knows we’ll look after him.

“It’s been a tough couple of days but this is a strong group and we’ll use this as motivation.”

Benning has made a superb start to his Mansfield Town career and has become popular after already hitting some memorable goals.
