Brown has expressed an interest in staying and now it is just down to agreeing the finer details of any potential deal.

Manager Adam Murray said: “Junior is still in talks with us. It’s just a case of me getting the deal I think is right for the club and Junior getting the deal he thinks is right for him.

“If we can come to an agreement on that, great, If we can’t then we will both move on.

“But he is not someone who is actively looking for another club. He wants to be a part of this. To be fair he’s had a couple of holidays so it’s not one we’ve been doing at a tremendous pace. It’s been quite a slow process.

“We are having constant dialogue with him and his representatives and if the deal is right for both parties then it will be done.”

Stags are still playing a waiting game on the fitness of long-term injured duo Luke Jones and Matty Blair.

“With Luke and Matty nothing has changed,” added Murray. “Both are continuing with their rehabilitation programme and we need to get to a certain census with both of them before we decide where we are going with them.

“I have to make sure that the negotiations and the contracts protect the club and get the best deals for the boys. That will done a few weeks down the line when we know where they are physically and their expected date back into the first team set-up.”
