Mansfield Town launch historic new kit during opening of new hospitality suite

Mansfield Town have launched their retro-looking third strip in the club’s new 1861 suite.

The club rolled back the years on Friday afternoon in the new suite, named in honour of the oldest professional football ground in the world.

Chairman John Radford and Chief Executive Officer Carolyn Radford cut the amber and blue ribbon to officially open the new room.

The club then launched their new third kit, modelled on the club’s first ever strip when the Stags were formed in 1897, featuring a light blue and brown striped jersey with white shorts and white stockings.

Speaking at the launch, chairman John Radford said: “It’s fantastic to recognise the oldest professional football ground in the world with a new hospitality room to celebrate this fact.

“Up to 250 people can be seated in the room, which is located in an ideal spot in the centre of town.

“The people who were involved [in its formation] have done it out of love for the club. There has been a lot of good will involved,” he added.

On the new kit he added: “The new third kit really does look classy. It’s a limited edition jersey and we’re expecting them to sell very well.

“The club played in these colours until 1910, and its design coincides with us recognising key landmarks in our history of which we are very proud.”

The new ‘third shirt’ can be purchased at £40 from the Stags’ club shop on Quarry Lane, Mansfield or online, www.stagsclubshop.com
