The tricky wingman started his senior career in non-league at Carlton Town, before linking up with Conference North outfit Gainsborough Trinity in 2012.
His impressive displays in the first team at The Northolme earned him a Football League move to Scunthorpe United, where he made his professional debut against the Stags on the opening day of last season.
The 25-year-old was a virtual ever-present in the Iron side which won promotion to League One last term.
On Hawkridge’s move to One Call Stadium, Stags’ boss Adam Murray said: “Terry’s a quality player. He’s somebody who can play either side of midfield, has great balance, delivery and experience at this level.
“He knows what this level is about and what it takes to succeed, which is a big thing for us.  He’ll up the standards of the group and for us he’s a great coup.”
Murray has also confirmed that Jeffrey Monakana will be heading back to Brighton & Hove Albion following his one month loan with the club.
