In the first game, which was marred by heavy rain throughout, both Mansfield and Leafield gave a competitive performance.

It was Mansfield who had the most chances in the first half, going close on a couple of occasions after some good build-up work but unfortunately they couldn’t find the net.

Part of the reason Mansfield struggled to get the ball in the Leafield net might have been down to inside knowledge as both keepers were Mansfield goalkeepers who took 45 minutes for each team, due to Leafield not having a goalkeeper on the day.

The only downside to a productive first 45 for the Stagettes was an ankle injury to new defender Gemma Nuttall, who was carried off the pitch.

Eventually it was Mansfield who broke the deadlock with Monica Bowley tapping in after some scrappy action in the Leafield box.
