Mansfield Town hoping on double striker injury boost

Mansfield Town are still hoping they may get a double boost on the striker front for their promotion run-in – but boss Paul Cox admits he won’t be pushing Jake Speight or Ross Dyer too hard.

Dyer has been out since the first game of the season with a bad knee ligament injury, while Speight’s comeback from a knee injury has seen him suffer a setback and had to go back to see a specialist.

“”Jake has been back to see the specialist and we are now waiting for things to settle down,” said manager Paul Cox. “It is a bit frustrating at the minute, but we have got to be patient. It’s his knees and his career we are talking about and we need to make sure that, if he needs wrapping up, then we will wrap him up.

“Ross is now running around like a madman and smashing a ball. What a positive it would be if he comes back in before the end of the season.

“But we won’t push him back in too early. We want him right for next season.”

Cox is in talks with a striker with a good pedigree, who could provide cover if needed.
