The winning goal came as early as the fifth minute at a soggy Sixfields when former Chesterfield striker Marc Richards headed home an Alfie Potter cross from the left.

Mansfield enjoyed good spells of possession without really testing the home keeper, Matt Green coming closest to levelling with a header against the bar in stoppage time from a Blair Adams free kick.

In the second half Calvert-Lewin crashed a shot off the Mansfield bar and Brian Jensen pulled off a couple of fine saves, but at the other end the Stags drew a blank for the fourth game on the trot, Adi Yussuf missing a stoppage time chance.
