Mansfield Town defender Krystian Pearce optimistic that Stags could go all the way

Summer signing Krystian Pearce believes Mansfield Town could win the League Two title and that manager Adam Murray is one of the best he has ever worked with.

Pearce has forged a superb central defensive partnership with Ryan Tafazolli as part of a settled back four that has only conceded six goals in 10 games – only Wycombe and Middlesbrough have conceded fewer in the entire Football League.

He also felt a developing friendship with Tafazolli is a big reason they have gelled so well.

“We just understand each other’s game and complement each other well,” he said. “Hopefully we can get us more clean sheets.

“I think it helps that we are close off the pitch as well as on it, hopefully that helps us throughout the season.”

Tafazolli headed home his third goal of the season in last night’s 2-0 win at Stevenage and Pearce smiled: “At the moment I am just helping him score goals - I am doing his dirty work if you like.”

Pearce has no doubt what the target is this season.
“Promotion – that’s the game,” he said. “We are trying to win the league. The goal is promotion, whether it’s through the play-offs or automatic. That’s the aim for the squad. Me personally I want to win the league.

“I think we have got the firepower up front and we’ve got a solid back four and a good midfield so what else do you need?”

Manager Murray has certainly impressed him in the three months they have worked together, Pearce saying: “I think he is definitely going to end up managing a lot higher. He is one of the best managers I have worked with and a good coach as well.

“At the moment I am taking it game by game. Hopefully I can continue to impress with my performances.”
