Mansfield Town chase loan left back after James Jennings is sidelined with torn hamstring

Jennings, who joined the club from Cambridge United in the January window, limped off the field during Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Nuneaton Town with a hamstring injury and Cox said this morning: “The report I have heard from the physio is that it’s quite a bad one, a grade two tear in his hamstring, and it’s looking very unlikely he will take any further part in the season.

“I wouldn’t rule him out completely as, knowing him, he will want to be back before the season ends. He is a little warrior.

“He has been brilliant to work with and you can tell why he’s worn the captain’s armband at other clubs. He is a true professional and his performances have been nothing short of excellent.

“But I have to make sure we cover for every eventuality and I have made tentative enquiries about a couple of players, quality players who have played at the top end of this division and the Football League. So we will have to see what happens today.

“I do have Lee Beevers and Ritchie Sutton who have covered at left back and George Pilkington, who played well there in the reserves last week. But Beevers has had eight booking and, two more, he would be suspended for two games. We could also pick up further injuries and I don’t want to leave us wide open.”
