Rampant Stags, who have claimed maximum points in their last four outings, blew away their Cumbrian opponents to equal the club’s biggest ever home win in 116 years of football.

The impressive victory has moved on-song Stags to within three points of Newport County in the final play-off place, with Stags travelling to South Wales on Tuesday night knowing a win will move them into fifth-spot.

But, despite Mansfield hitting the points and goal trail in recent weeks, Cox says his players should not get carried away.

“I don’t want to go overboard because of the amount of goals we have scored today,” said Cox. “There is a lot of football still to be played and a lot of things that can go for us or go against us.

“What pleases me most is the level of hunger the players are showing, both with and without the ball. We are working hard in training and in games.

“The lads were excellent today and fully deserved the win. The lads deserve great credit for the win, they just keep going.

“We have looked good in training and are on a good run.”

Cox also believes that his confident players can also improve as the season reaches the business end.

“There are still areas where we can get better and we will keep working to make sure that we improve,” he added.

“I don’t want to get carried away today. We will enjoy the win and then get back to preparing for what is going to be another tough week ahead.

“We are all in football to win and the lads are enjoying winning right now. You have to enjoy winning, but it is important we do not get too carried away.
