The former Eastwood Town manager took over at the helm in May 2011 and quickly won over a small section of the fans who were upset at Mansfield appointing an ‘unknown manager’.

But Cox quickly showed his expert knowledge of non-league football to get Stags promoted to the Football League at the second time of asking.

“It is nice to reach a landmark like this but it is just another game that I am looking to win,” said Cox.

“I am very proud to have made it to 100 games, it has been a real roller-coaster.

“There has been good times and bad times, but that is what I am in the game for. It is the thrill of the chase.

“I have learnt a lot about myself and a lot about the job.

“It is for other people to decide how well I have done at the club during this time.

“I want to keep seeing things improve and I will always try to get more out of the players.”

Mansfield, who are currently eighth in the early table, have three home games out of their next four games and know they have a real opportunity to continue their climb up the League Two table.

After Northampton, Stags travel to Chesterfield for the highly-anticipated derby before back-to-back home matches with struggling Hartlepool and Bristol Rovers.

“Northampton are a good side and I am expecting a tough game from them. There are no easy games at this level,” Cox said.

““At this stage of the season I am used to fans booing and players getting abuse so it is nice to have had a steady start.

“It is important we do not get carried away or look too far ahead.

“We have had a decent start so far, but that is all it is and there is a very long way to go.

“It is all about how you finish and where you finish not how you start and I would rather be in the play-offs at the end of the season.

“It is important that we maintain our standards, I still believe that we can get better.”
