Angry Mansfield Town boss Paul Cox slammed his players for pressing the ‘self destruct button’ after watching his side slip to yet another away defeat.
Stags switched off defensively to concede two goals right on the stroke of half-time as Elliot Bradbrook and then Ryan Hayes took full advantage of too much time and space to fire Dartford ahead.
The second goal particularly frustrated Cox with Hayes picking up possession following a poor pass by Gary Roberts, less than 60 seconds after Mansfield Town had first conceded.
After the final whistle a fuming Cox locked his Stags players in the away dressing room for 30 minutes where ‘harsh words’ and ‘home truths’ were exchanged.
Speaking to the media after emerging from the dressing room Cox said: “I am so angry with how we finished the half.
“There was not a lot between the sides in terms of chances and possession until the goal. It was even.
“We just pressed the self destruct button. In the second half we went with two wingers to have a go at them, but we had a mountain to climb after the second goal.
“At one goal down going into half-time you are always in with a chance. Conceding the second goal like that was a bitter blow and I am really disappointed.
“The two goals totally changed the completion of the game. The two goals just killed us.
“We did not have that sharpness in the final third or create clear cut chances. There were some strong words and home truths said in the dressing room after the game.
“We are one of the best teams in this league at home, but it is not happening away and we have tried a number of different ways of fixing it.
“We are conceding sloppy goals and you cannot concede goals like we are doing if you are going to be successful. We need to sort out our away form.”
The result leaves Stags struggling in 10th spot in mid-table, six points outside the play-offs ahead of the rest of the Blue Square Premier fixtures.
Paul Cox’s faltering team will be desperate to add to their paltry total of four away points when they travel to Nuneaton for their next league outing.
