With new signing Westcarr looking set to cement an attacking role with goal ace Green, the pair set each other up with goals in last weekend’s 4-0 win over Crawley and Murray said: “They are two exceptional players.

“They are two players that have scored goals throughout their career, two good brains, two movements, two sets of pace and they are a great partnership. When they do gel properly and get the game time together they will be a force to be reckoned with.

“The big thing is they stick to the work ethic we are putting in as that is the base and the bottom line.”

Former England U21 player Westcarr was disappointed to miss out on selection at the start of the season, but has soon battled his way into the side and Murray smiled: “Westy is brilliant when he’s not moaning.

“He’s a great guy. He’s an excellent footballer and he is an experienced head in the group whose standards are very high. He expects the best out of everything and he pushes standards.

“We’ve seen over the last couple of weeks what a good player he is and on Saturday in the role that he played, he was different class. When we get him playing in that number 10 role and being effective in it then there won’t be many better at this level.

“We did our recruitment on good people. We said that from the off. He is one of them that’s had a career in which he should have played higher for longer – and he’d be the first to admit that.

“But he’s come into the group and you can tell money is not the issue. He wants to win and he wants the best out of everything. He pushes the group and when his standards are where they were on Saturday he is a major influence in this group.”

Murray added: “With the ball, we know what he can do. The question with these flair players and attacking players is are you disciplined and organised enough to make sure we do the ugly side of the game?

“Because the League we are in, you have to be hard to beat and you have to be disciplined with your shape and your commitment to the team – and Westy is doing that.”
