Mansfield Town boss Adam Murray can’t wait for new season to start

Stags begin their 2015-16 fixture programme at home to Carlisle United on the opening day of the season, followed by a trip to local rivals Notts County.

The team will travel 6,497 miles next season - the 533.6 round journey to Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park remaining the longest trek.

“As a player, and now as a manager, these are days which you look forward to,” said Murray.

“The cup draw yesterday (away at Sheffield Wednesday) is an exciting one for us, and looking at the League fixtures, we have a massive local derby so soon (into the season) at Notts County.

“Now we have it (the fixture list) in black and white, we can plan for certain parts of the season in a little more detail.

“There is an air of anticipation and excitement around the ground and the town just now and we can’t wait to get going.

“We will cover a lot of miles in League Two this season and there is much work to be done on the road.”

Before the new League campaign begins on 8th August, Murray will be putting his newly formed squad through their paces in pre-season, with no fewer than 13 pre-season fixtures arranged.

“We are looking to create a belief and an environment for us to be successful and are assembling a group of players that can affect this level of football,” he said.

“Pre-season will be about moulding them together and teaching the players how we will move forward.

“There will be a big emphasis on team spirit and getting the players to understand how we will approach next season.

“There are still vital parts to be added to the jigsaw and I will be patient with these parts, as they must be correct.

“So far in our recruitment process, we have a very good blend of player and character. This must continue when we look to place in the last pieces of the jigsaw.

“From the chairman downwards, there is a very positive vibe around the camp.”
