Mansfield Town blog: Signings give me optimism for the season ahead, but Chris Beardsley has to prove himself

Another week of the close season has gone and three more signings have been announced by Mansfield Town.

The first two players who have signed are probably not well known to a lot of Stags fans, but do sound like they have real potential.

Nathan Thomas, from what I have heard from Plymouth fans as well as watching a YouTube clip of him putting former player Lee Beevers on his bum looks a real prospect.

A left footer who can play left wing or right wing and has a lot of pace apparently.

Adil yussuf also sounds like he has serious ability and, with Matt green alongside him, we might be in for some real fun next season.

As a Stags fan though, as I stated in my last blog, I have got it in my own head to be cautious. I always get excited only to be put back down to earth as the season goes on.

We’ve also heard the weird news that Chris Beardsley is also back. I for one was very shocked by this news as I don’t think this is the best of signings.

But, and this is a big, but if he proves me wrong I’d be delighted once again. He’s not got a great goalscoring record at all and, in my opinion, Aaron O’Connor would be a much better singning.

I’ve just had a discussion about Beardsley with a couple of friends and the move has split it opinion.

Liam Marsden has re-signed for next season, which is good news and the squad is really beginning to take shape.

With Liam marsden re-signing that only leaves Junior Brown, Chris Clements and Ollie Palmer still to decide.

The team, on paper, does look very youthful though, so I’d hope the next signings would be even more experienced ones.

We currently have 18 players signed up for next season, but I’m guessing that the younger players such as Dan Fletcher, Chris Spencer and Anthony Dwyer will be going out on loan.

I’m personally guessing that Adam murray is taking his time with a goalkeeper as he wants the goalie to be the right one for the next few years so that can’t be argued with.

We also found out this week that stags will be playing a friendly against Barnsley at Oakwell for sir Bobby Hassell’s testimonial.

Since I’ve been watching the Stags he’s undoubtably the best right-back I’ve seen in a Stags shirt.

I’ve also renewed my season ticket for next season a few weeks back so I urge all other Stags fans to do the same and make stags a daunting place to come!! Coys!!!
