Malvind Benning says he wants to smash in many more goals for Mansfield Town after his wonder strike against Carlisle United.
The former Walsall man crashed in a thunderous 30 yard free-kick to put Stags 1-0 up after just 29 minutes of his club league debut.
Said Benning: “I was practicing free-kicks all yesterday and to be fair I didn’t get a single one in.
“Today I just hit it and got the technique right and it went in. The technique is something I am working on and if the boss will let me then I’ll put myself at the top of the free-kick list.
“I hope to get a few more goals like that, it was a pleasing goal to score.”
And Benning, who 46 first team appearances for Walsall between 2011/15, believes there is more to come from Mansfield.
“We would have liked to win the game, but it is good to get off the mark,” he said.
“The goal we conceded was a poor one, but you cannot blame individuals because we defend as a team.
“It was a battle today and we knew that it was going to be, that is what League Two football is all about
“There are new players in the team and we will get better as we go on. We have got more to come once players gel and partnerships develops.”
Carlisle levelled the game in first half stoppage time with through Jabo Ibehre calm finish.
Chris Clements twice went close to putting Mansfield back ahead in the second half, before Derek Asamoah failed to connect with Angelo Balanta’s cross on 76 minutes as both sides pushed for a winner.
New-boys Adi Yussuf and Matt Green both came within inches of giving the home side the lead in the final five minutes.
