Mansfield Town striker Danny Rose has apologised to supporters for his failed attempt to leave the club in the summer and thanked them for sticking by him.

Two goals and two assists today in the 4-0 win over Northampton followed his goal at Cambridge last week and Rose said: “I am really enjoying my football now after a really bad summer for me personally.

“I am just glad to be playing week in, week out, getting the goals and the three points.

“The summer was horrible for me personally. It was bad advice from me and the people around me. You learn from your mistakes in life and I now move on.

“I do love it here and I want to apologise to everyone for what happened over the summer.

“The fans have been brilliant. They have stuck by me, which I couldn’t believe, and I can’t thank them enough.

“It’s been up to me to get them back on my side.”

Rose remains on the transfer list and added: “I think it’s important me and the gaffer sit down and have a talk about it. “The most important thing is that I am playing week in, week out. That’s all I want really.”

Mansfield put the Cobblers to the sword and Rose said: “That gives us a lot of confidence going into Tuesday now.

“Back-to-back wins would put us right up there within touching distance of the play-offs and people forget we have a game in hand.

“We need that after the draw at Cambridge. We needed to stop sitting back after going well 1-0 up and today we thankfully got a second and third to kill them off and get the three points.”

He added: “It was nice to get the goals but more importantly we got a win to put us up the table.

“My first one was an ugly goal to be fair and I probably should have passed it but thankfully it’s gone in.

“The second was a little shank to be fair. CJ (Hamilton) put it on a plate for me as I did for his goal.”
