'I'm 100% now': Tyler Roberts is ready to challenge with Mansfield Town as League One mission verdict given
Tyler Roberts is ready to push on with Mansfield Town after returning from an injury setback.
The striker has been working towards his match fitness over Stags’ last two fixtures and now he feels ready to fight for his place in Nigel Clough’s starting line-up.
Roberts signed a new one-year contract with Mansfield Town over the summer but missed the first three games of the season through injury. He returned to action with two appearances against Reading and Bradford, but suffered another setback after picking up a calf injury during training.
With David McGoldrick also having a hit-and-miss start to the season with his fitness, Mansfield Town have not had the full selection of attackers to choose from that they worked hard to build during the summer transfer window.
Fortunately, Roberts is now back in contention and has two more appearances under his belt in League One this season. After coming off the bench against both Bromley and Oxford United, the 27-year-old is looking to challenge for his place in Clough’s starting 11.
“I didn’t want to have to say it again but injuries have happened, but the medical team have looked after me once again. So now, I’m feeling good and strong and it’s been good to gradually build up my minutes and take it slow. I feel ready and prepared to kick on now,” Roberts said during Monday’s press conference.
“I’m 100 percent now. I’ve been building up the minutes to get that match fitness and sharpness and I would say over the games I’ve played, I’ve been able to feel stronger and I’m in a good position now.
“Whenever the manager sees that I’m ready to do so, I’m ready to play and get into the team. I think the team has been playing well, the results have been up and down but our home form has been amazing. So, getting into the team is the first thing and then it’s about keeping that position.”
Roberts is yet to start this season but he will be looking for his opportunities over the coming weeks as the league continues to throw out its challenges.
League One has already proven it’s not going to be an easy beast to tame this season but Roberts is confident Stags have what it takes to push on from May’s tenth-place finish.
“I think that the squad the club has built, the manager, the owners, the hierarchy is one that’s very competitive for this league. With the way that we play, I believe we can compete against any team in the league and we’ve shown that already at the end of last season. I think we’re at a good point to really push on see what we can achieve.”
