MANSFIELD Town boss Duncan Russell was dealt a huge blow today when former England and Aston Villa midfield star Lee Hendrie did an 11th hour U-turn on his proposed move to Field Mill.

A deal was shaken on last week and the player was expected in to sign on the dotted line this morning before the club’s press conference at which fans were promised an anouncement.

But in a call to Russell from Hendrie’s agent on Sunday evening, Stags learned the player had over the weekend landed himself a lucrative deal to move abroad, believed to be a club in Indonesia, for wages which Mansfield simply couldn’t match.

However, Russell still has another possible big name signing up his sleeve and wants to bring in four new faces before the month ends.

But injured on-loan Brighton defender Steve Cook has returned to Withdean Stadium.

Full story and Russell’s reaction to the Hendrie U-turn in this week’s Chad.
