Mansfield Town fans have been having their say on the departure of manager Paul Cox.

Cox left the club by mutual consent following a crisis meeting with chairman John Radford on Friday afternoon.

It brings to an end three and a half years at the club, which saw Cox guide Stags back in to the Football League.

But he has come under increasing pressure from the fans following a poor run of results during which Mansfield have failed to win in their last nine games.

The fans have also grown increasingly unhappy at the club’s long ball and physical style.

Commenting on www.chad.co.uk SuffolkStag said: “Many thanks for two great seasons in the conference - Greeny’s late winner at Hereford one of my best ever footballing memories.

“However it has been obvious for a long time that PC had run out of ideas and wasn’t going to be able to take the club forward. Goodbye and thanks for all the fish.”

Delboy Stag also expressed his thanks to Cox, saying: “Thanks Paul. We were a mid to lower Conference side going no where when you came in. Let’s hope we never return to those days.”

NOTTINGHAMSTAG wrote: “This is going to be interesting to see whether all of the people who have been slagging off one of our most successful managers will, a. Get behind the new manager, b. Come back to watch them, c. Support the team and not get on the backs of the players.

“Historically we have been crap at replacing successful managers. So let’s keep out fingers crossed and not regret getting rid of PC best of luck paul, I would have thought you won’t be out of a job for long, but probably in the conference.”

James Sutherland added: “Coxy has been a great servant to our club. An excellent record overall but everyone knew it was time to move on.

“This is absolutely the right decision at the right time. All the best Coxy and thanks for the hard work.”

Stagman1966 said: “Well done Coxy. The fans loved that superb run to the Championship.

“The time was right, and hopefully even PC knew in his own heart, it was time to move on to pastures new. I just wished he had held up his hands a few weeks ago, and walked out of the gates with his head held high.

“That said, PC should always be welcomed back to the club by the fans in any capcity. Opposing Manager, Scout, or just even for a pint in the SP bar on a match day.

“Everyone needs to get behind the club now. The new man will have some rebuilding to do, to move us up the table pronto, and all fans need to back him and the club.UTS.”

Old Stag said believes Mansfield are going backwards and the time for change was now. He said: “A big thanks to coxie for getting us back in the league in 2012 but its 2014 and we are going backwards something had got to happen.

“Whether we go for a wild card like adam murray or try and get someone with league experience ,its up to the board. I just hope the fans give him a fighting chance.”

SkegbyMick also pointed to the club’s ‘lack of progress’ this season, saying: “Thank you PC for getting us out of non league. Managers come and go. Its a short shelf life. We must move on. That’s life.

“Weve not really improved since last year. I guess with the unrest something had to give.”
