Mansfield Town today hope to complete the loan signing of a striker from a Premiership club.

Despite a largely decent display against Plymouth on Saturday, the Stags lost 1-0 to a last gasp strike and have now gone 338 minutes without a goal.

Stags have so far failed to properly replace goal ace Matt Green, who joined Birmingham in the summer, and fans have been clamouring for manager Paul Cox to bring in a new striker.

Cox is hoping to give them good news today, saying: “We know we need a natural goalscorer and we should have one in, I would have thought, today or definitely by Friday’s match at Southend.

“He is in the Matt Green mould and it would be initially for a month.

“The lad is very highly thought of at his club and by other people. But nothing is done and dusted yet so I am not shouting from the rooftops until the ink is dry on the paperwork.”
