Former Mansfield Town boss Keith Curle has moved into pole position to become Carlisle United’s new manager.
Curle, who guided Stags to play-off final defeat against Huddersfield in 2004, watched Carlisle’s defeat at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night following talks with the Blues board.
Carlisle are believed to be impressed with the 50-year-old and are set to meet Curle for further discussions, reports the News and Star.
If Carlisle decide former England defender Curle is the man they want, there is the possibility of an appointment in time for Saturday’s trip to Mansfield.
The race to become Graham Kavanagh’s successor is entering its final stages with United saying they expect a “firm answer” from their chosen candidate by tomorrow.
