Cox delighted with Stags’ behind-closed-doors Notts friendly work-out

PAUL Cox was delighted with the work-out given to his fringe players in Stags’ 2-2 home behind-closed-doors friendly with a strong Notts County side at Field Mill on Tuesday.

Some youth team players also got a run-out and youngsters Danny Bisungu and Adam Somes both found the net as Mansfield twice came from behind.

“It was a great 90 minutes for all the lads as it was a really competitive game,” said manager Cox.

“We have to keep fitness levels up as I am sure all the squad will be needed between now and the end of the season. It was also a chance to integrate some of the youth team players as we need kids coming through.”

Lee Stevenson had to come off with a slight lower back problem but should be fit enough if needed for this weekend’s squad.

John Thompson, who has missed most of the season with injuries sustained in pre-season at Ilkeston, came through the full game looking sharp and Cox intends to have a chat with him to see how he feels about a possible step back up to the first team squad.

Winger Adam Smith also excelled and did his chances for the weekend no harm at all.
