Paul Cox’s men head for Southend United tonight having only netted twice in their six October games, failing to win any of them, and Clucas said: “We have a new striker here now so hopefully that will kickstart some of the boys.

“He looks big, though not as big as me! He looks strong and hopefully he will adjust to League Two football well.

“It was one of those days on Saturday and I thought we played well as a team. We created lots of chances but unfortunately couldn’t take one.

“So we kind of shot ourselves in the foot. Then they (Plymouth) scored from a set piece. That’s how football goes sometimes.

“I don’t know what’s going on. We have been solid at the back but can’t score. Hopefully we can sort that out tonight.

“We set ourselves such high standards at the start of the season. We have to remember we have just come from the Conference last year. We have exceeded expectations.

“It’s a Friday night game and it will probably be cold and difficult conditions. But you don’t really prepare any differently (to a Saturday). It’s another game with the chance of three points.”
