Home boss Chris Millington was very pleased with the aptitude of his players in this enthralling encounter.

Mansfield looked to make an early impression and, in the opening minute, C. Spencer made home keeper Nick Siddings dive briskly to his right.

But Clipstone settled down after the first 10 minutes and had a great chance of their own with Callum Mawby, picking up the ball from 25 yards out, trying to lob the keeper on the half volley, slightly under-hitting it and making it easy for Frazer Hansen in the visiting goal.

But Clipstone did take the lead on 22 minutes. Gary Armstrong played a great ball into Jason Edwards on the left edge of the penalty area, he gave the ball back to Armstrong and, with a first time cross found Blake Owen unmarked inside the box, who steered his header into the corner of the goal.

It could have been 2-0 a few moments later again as a ball came over to the left side of play where Jason Edwards just got his head to it. The ball looped up with the keeper just getting a hand to it and, helped by his defender, cleared the danger.

On 30 minutes Dan Wood dispossessed stags D. Gibson on the half way line and ran through on goal, dragging his shot wide to the left.

Clipstone made their first change at the interval with Adam Wisdom replacing goal scorer Blake Owen.

There were no clear chances in the opening exchanges of the second half until Liam Osborne tricked his way passed a couple of defenders and laid the ball off to Edwards just right of the penalty spot.

With two quick touches, he opened up the gap to get his shot away but, fortunately for the Stags, it was straight down the keeper’s throat who, with good hands, caught the ball to clear the danger.

Edwards was given a well deserved rest when he was replaced by Nathan Millington on the hour.

On 67 minutes Mansfield did not learn from their sloppy passing in defence from the first half and this time it proved costly.

Adam Wisdom collected the ball 25 yards out and, with only the keeper to beat, calmly slotted away the gift from 12 yards out, leaving the visiting keeper with little chance.

A consolation goal for the young Stags came in the 72nd minute when a corner from the right side found Oliver Roome to fire past the home keeper.
