Catling’s Corner Stags Blog: Best performance of the season?

It was FA Cup week in the world of the Stags, and we ended it with arguably the best performance of the season against Oldham.

With fine performances from all of the team it was a shame that we didn’t come away with the win. It seems at the moment that the luck is not going for us in front of goal at home.

As Adam Murray stated after the game we just need one to go in off someone’s backside. If that happens someone’s going to be in for a thrashing from the Stags.

With Krystian Pearce now back next game, his stand-in since he has been out, Lee Collins, was once again awesome.

He deservedly got man of the match and it most definitely is going to be very interesting to see what Murray does this weekend as we travel to our promotion rivals Northampton.

There were also stand-out performances from Reggie Lambe and Chris Clements.

Lambe, for me, had his best game in a Stags shirt and if his chance had of gone in just before half-time the game would without doubt have gone our way in my opinion.

It is also no coincidence that when Chris Clements and Mitchell Rose are back together in midfield then the passing is a lot better as well.

I thought the game was a good test as to how we would fare against a League One team and, for me, we outplayed them and beat them in nearly everything other than the scoreline.

After my comments in recent blogs about Greeny, I thought it was also good by Murray to bring him off for a change near the end.

There is something not quite right with Greeny, but he will come good.

I’d now like to talk about one of our very own and I’ve just seen tonight that Jack Thomas has been chosen as a finalist for Nottinghamshire’s Professional Footballer of the Year award.

Good luck Jack. You are more than worthy of winning it, but I suppose I am a little bit biased.

We now go into the FA Cup draw tonight and we are ball number six, so if we get through the replay, which I have every confidence we will if we play like yesterday, then who do we want to draw?

I’d just like to finish this by mentioning by the youth team winning in the FA Youth Cup. Congratulations to them. From that team young Cain Smith was on the bench for the first team Saturday and I as well as many other fans wish you well in a Stags shirt.

So come on Adam Murray’s barmy army and COYS.
