Mansfield Town unlikely to do any more January business

As Mansfield Town today tried to tie up a deal to keep Notts County loanee Blair Adams on a permanent deal, boss Adam Murray said it was unlikely the club would do any more business in the January transfer window after that.

It was one in and one out at One Call Stadium last week with Nathan Thomas heading for Hartlepool and James Baxendale in on loan from Walsall.

But with only Adi Yussuf in the club treatment room, Murray has almost a full squad to choose from and admitted: “I am not looking at anything in particular now.

“The easy option is for me to go to the chairman and say, look, we need this and we need that.

“Being brutally honest we haven’t got the resources that probably the top four or fiver clubs have got.

“But we have very good players here. The chairman has backed us to go and get some very good players in this season.

“We’ve got a small squad but I believe, within it, we can learn and grow this season. We are not going to jump into the top three. We’re not there yet.

“I went to Oxford at the weekend and they got 9,000. I know a lot of people in football so obviously you know what these clubs are doing and we can’t do that.

“What we can do is work extra hard and get the best out of the players we have got.”
