Mansfield Town stars named in Sky Sports League One Team of the Week, alongside Sheffield Wednesday trio

Mansfield Town put five goals past promotion hopefuls Luton Town on Sunday in a dominant League One display.

Stags’ efforts have taken them up to fifth in the league table and earned star duo Jon Russell and Nathan Moriah-Welsh a place in the Sky Sports League One Team of the Week.

The Hatters simply could not contain the two as they finished the match with two goals and an assist each. Moriah-Welsh, who was given his first league start of the season, opened the score-line and his 2026/27 account with a goal in the 17th minute – assisted by Russell.

He doubled the lead just before the half hour mark with a thunderous strike from just inside the box, lifting the roof off the One Call.

Moriah-Welsh turned provider after half-time with an assist for Louis Reed and then it was Russell’s turn to hit the back of the net as his brace marked Mansfield’s fourth and fifth goals of the afternoon.

“Me and Russ are really tight, so if he isn’t scoring, I’m scoring – it’s a good feeling. It was nice to get in on the goals today,” Moriah-Welsh said after Stags’ emphatic victory on Sunday.

Thanks to their crucial efforts in attack, both Russell and Moriah-Welsh have made it into the Sky Sports League One Team of the Week, picked by EFL editor Simeon Gholam.

The Stags duo are joined by Sheffield Wednesday's Callum Slattery and Louie Barry in midfield. Mason Burstow has also made the cut up front, after the Owls thrashed Bromley 7-2. The trio combined three goals and three assists between them at Hillsborough.

Huddersfield Town striker Joe Taylor – who scored two late goals to beat Cambridge United – joins Burstow up top in this Team of the Week.

The defenders are Doncaster’s Jack Senior and Plymouth Argyle’s Julio Pleguezuelo, who both scored in their respective fixtures. Joining them is Blackpool duo Oliver Casey and Jordan Williams – the latter scored the opener in his side’s 4-0 win over Peterborough.

Blackpool’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell is the man in goal this week.
