Mansfield Town send shirts to Malawi schoolchildren

The shirts have been delivered by a representative of the Southwell and Nottingham diocese of the Church of England.

It is the second time in recent years that the club has made good use of old shirts after jerseys and training tops were posted to children in Sierra Leone in September 2015.

Operations director Tina Broughton said: “We have close links with the local diocese of the Church of England and were happy to help them in this way, and more importantly the children in Malawi.

“The country is one of the most impoverished in the world and the feedback we have already received from the children is heart-warming.

“They are treasuring these shirts, which they wouldn’t be able to otherwise afford.”

She added: “We extend our charity and good will as often as is possible.

“This Christmas, our first team players will be delivering presents to poorly children at King’s Mill Hospital and at Easter, our squad will take gifts to the John Eastwood Hospice in Mansfield.

“Moreover, in recent years we helped raise over £2,000 for a local homeless charity and Mansfield’s branch of The Royal British Legion.

“It is important, as a community club, that we are benevolent in ways such as these whenever possible.”
