Mansfield Town pay tribute to Chris Wood following sad death of Stags volunteer
Chris, who was the longest-serving volunteer at the club, passed away last night. He was 62.
Chris removed litter and swept the car park and ground at One Call Stadium and in later years helped former kit manager Scott Merriman with the players’ first team kit.

Hide AdHead groundsman Michael Merriman said: “We’re devastated to learn of Chris’ passing, the news has ‘knocked everyone for six’.
“Simply put, he was a wonderful human being. He’ll be greatly missed by everyone at the club, especially the groundstaff.”
On a lighter note of remembrance, Michael said: “Chris was well-known for writing letters to the chairman and managers, telling them what he thought of their appointments and team selection. "He’d write to the manager telling them who should be playing in the team, especially when we weren’t doing too well on the field!”
He added: “We were lucky to have Chris at the club and can’t speak highly enough of him. If the world had more people like Chris, it would be a better place.”
Chris’ all-time favourite Mansfield player was Chris Greenacre.
Away from his volunteering at the Stags, he enjoyed woodwork at Dukeries College, Ollerton.
