Mansfield Town are hoping loanee striker Ricky Miller can still play a part in the promotion push after a scan revealed the extent of his hamstring injury this week.

Miller got through the second half of last Saturday’s 4-3 home defeat by Crewe, picking up the man of the match award in the process with a dazzling display.

But he could feel pain at the back of his leg within 15 minutes of coming on and now faces a fight to be fit before the season ends.

The Peterborough loanee still hasn’t started a game and with just four games to go, knows time is against him.

“It’s hit us as he deserved to start against Stevenage,” said manager David Flitcroft.

“For personal reasons he was desperate to play for and I felt for the kid.

“There isn’t a timeline on it. A hamstring injury is usually four to six weeks. It depends on his recovery capabilities. We might get him back sooner.

“He had a scan and it’s the top of the hamstring. We have been told four weeks.

“We had similar ‘intel’ on Alfie Potter, but he came back sooner.

“So you live in hope he has healing capabilities and we can get him back a little bit quicker.”
